Speed

Speed

Speed, also known as Spit, is a fast-paced and competitive two-player card game. The objective is to be the first player to deplete your stockpile and build piles of cards in ascending order.

Setup:

  1. Use a standard 52-card deck for Speed.
  2. Each player shuffles their own deck and deals a set of 20 cards into their stockpile. Place the stockpile face down, with the top card turned face up next to it. This face-up card starts the center piles.
  3. Players also have a draw pile, which is created by removing the top 5 cards from the top of their stockpile and placing them face up. This forms a draw pile for each player.

Objective:

  1. The goal is to play as many cards as quickly as possible from your stockpile onto the center piles by building up or down from the face-up cards.

Round Play:

  1. Both players play simultaneously and at their own pace. The game is divided into rounds, and each round consists of several steps.
  2. Players aim to build on the center piles from the face-up cards by playing cards that are one rank higher or lower. For example, if the face-up card in the center is a 7, you can play a 6 or an 8.
  3. When you play a card onto a center pile, immediately flip the next card from your draw pile. You can play this new card if it's playable or swap it with the face-up card to reveal new possibilities.
  4. Players can also create "speed" piles where they can place cards that follow the ascending or descending order of the face-up center cards. These piles can be used to play multiple cards at once onto the center piles.
  5. If both players are stuck and cannot play any more cards from their stockpile or draw pile, they shout "Spit!" and slap the center piles. This initiates a scoring phase.
  6. In the scoring phase, players check the center piles for cards that are out of sequence. For example, if the center pile has a 5 and a 9, the 9 is out of sequence, and the player who spotted it first wins the center piles.
  7. The player who wins the center piles scores a point for that round. If no player spotted the out-of-sequence cards, the round is considered a tie, and no points are scored.
  8. Start a new round with the stockpile and draw piles, and continue until one player reaches the target score (commonly 15 points) or any other predetermined score.

Winning:

  1. The game is won by the player who reaches the target score first.

Tips:

  • Speed is a game that requires quick thinking and rapid card play.
  • Keep an eye on both your own center piles and your opponent's center piles to spot out-of-sequence cards.
  • Utilize "speed" piles to quickly play multiple cards onto the center piles.

Speed is an exhilarating card game that challenges your reflexes and quick thinking. It's a highly competitive and enjoyable game for two players, perfect for testing your speed and card-playing skills.
